This Eagle Owl was found in slack condition about 50 km. west of Bergen in western Norway mid April 2012. The bird was examined by a veterinary, and all bones and joints x-rayed. It had a little swelling in a muscle on the right wing, but became fit during the next days. It is a young male, and it was ringed when this shot was taken.
It was equipped with a satellite transmitter and released in the area where it was found on April 20. It is going to be interesting to see what a young non-breeding male do this spring and summer. The area where it was found (and released) has one of the best Eagle Owl populations in western Norway. Hordaland county has 50 to 100 breeding couples.
