I have been macro-photographing for some years now. An important thing in my photography has been to shoot animals alive, preferrably in their natural habitat. This is still my aim, but yesterday I was invited to the scanning electron microscope in the science building at the University of Bergen. We were going to scan a tiny pseudoscorpion that I've collected for this purpose after "normal" photography in the field.
The following images were scanned by Egil Severin Erichsen at the Laboratory for Electron Microscopy. The magnifications range from 300 to 9400 times. The picture above show the animal alive. If you enlarge it, you can see (by mouseover) what parts of the animal the scanned pictures originate from. Enjoy and be stunned!
