Nepal 22. November - 5. December 2018
Being the project manager of BirdLife Norway's work in developing countries, I am privileged to make monitoring trips now and then. In late November 2018 it was time to visit Nepal. My first visit to the country. Below there are four pages with summaries from each of the three areas (all are Important Bird Areas) we are working in, as well as an ending summary from my last days in Nepal, in the pulsating Kathmandu.
24. - 27. November 2018: Rara National Park
28. - 30. November 2018: Bardia National Park
1. - 2. December 2018: Ghodaghodi lake
3. - 5. December 2018: Kathmandu

Optics: I only used my bins during the trip, except when counting birds at lake Rara in the Himalayas and lake Barhaiya ihn Bardia. Then a telescope was nice to use. My photo equipment during the trip was a Canon 7D with a Canon 300 mm, F:4.
Field guide: I bought "Birds of the Indian Subcontinent" by Grimmet, Inskipp & Inskipp before the trip. The book covered all species in Nepal (at least during my trip). I was not familiar with "Birds of Nepal", but would for sure have bought that one today. The book has similar authours and drawings, but exclude several species not seen in Nepal. The book is almost half the weight of mine, and that is an advantage when carrying it around in the field.
